Dear Harlem - A Letter from LaVilla

Step back in time to 1905 Jacksonville, where Lavilla’s Ashley Street was alive with energy, culture, and the sounds of jazz legends like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. This soul-stirring musical drama tells the story of 17-year-old singer-songwriter Harlem Baker, who, guided by her great-grandmother, uncovers the vibrant history of her hometown. Set against a backdrop of thriving African American-owned businesses and the entertainment hub of the time, this production celebrates the heroes of Lavilla, including Eartha White, James Weldon Johnson, and Ma Rainey. With a joyous score blending jazz, gospel, blues, and more, "Dear Harlem" honors the past and celebrates the future. Before Harlem, there was Lavilla! Join us for a night of unforgettable music, dance, and history.
